21st Annual CLE Conference Program- Insurance for Natural and Manmade Disasters Including the COVID-19 Pandemic and Insurance 101 Highlights, Hosted by Association of Corporate Counsel New Jersey
The COVID-19 pandemic is the latest and most significant of a string of natural and manmade disasters, including Sandy, earthquakes, train derailments, etc. Businesses are increasingly focusing on whether they have the proper insurance to protect company assets and lost income when the next natural or manmade disaster occurs. This program will focus on the types of coverages businesses should consider to reimburse them for damaged or destroyed company property, lost revenue resulting from such property losses, and other additional coverages available in the event of power or telecommunication service disruption, damage or destruction of the property of essential business partners that results in a loss of revenue to the company, losses arising from civil authority orders, and related coverages. We will address both the types of coverage available, the scope and limitations of the coverage, and best practices for pursuing a claim once the loss occurs.
Led by Newark Insurance Recovery and Counseling partners Donald Kiel and Fred Giordano, this program will provide an insightful overview of commercial insurance issues that every in-house lawyer should know. We will provide helpful insights, highlight the frequent pitfalls commercial policyholders face, and explore how in-house counsel can provide value to their employers to help steer around these potential pitfalls.
Topics to be covered during the program include the types of commercial liability insurance policies typically purchased by commercial entities; critical provisions of such policies, including a discussion of whether to negotiate provisions with insurers; and the claims process, including issues involving notice, reservation of rights letters, and managing the relationship with outside counsel when the insurer is defending or paying for the defense.
