K&L Gates Honored as a Pro Bono Innovator by Bloomberg Law
Global law firm K&L Gates has been named a 2024 Pro Bono Innovator by Bloomberg Law. Each year, Pro Bono Innovators honors a small group of law firms and other legal service providers that go above and beyond in delivering pro bono legal services. Each firm is evaluated on how they strategized to tackle complex pro bono matters for the underserved, the impact of the client matters, and how the team ultimately achieved successful results. This year, K&L Gates was one of 10 honoree law firms.
In the firm’s profile, editors write that K&L Gates was honored “for its work with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), a nonprofit group, to develop the Global Platform for Child Exploitation Policy.” More than 60 lawyers globally worked with NCMEC to create the first online Global Platform for Child Exploitation Policy serving as an information clearinghouse of data analytics concerning online child sexual exploitation. The editors note that “the firm also is honored for incorporating human-rights related elements in The Gambia’s model bilateral investment treaty, in collaboration with two other organizations.”
K&L Gates lawyers actively engage in a variety of pro bono efforts and work on hundreds of pro bono matters each year. The projects described in the Bloomberg recognition are examples of the firm using its global platform and substantive experience to address significant challenges in new and meaningful ways. The firm has also been innovative in efforts that involve increasing access to justice through the responsible use of artificial intelligence, establishing and running a Cyber Civil Rights Legal Project that helps victims of revenge porn, and harnessing its global resources for initiatives that combat human trafficking and promote equal justice. The firm highlights a selection of recent pro bono work and awards in For the Good of All.
