Sophie Chu

Sophie Chu is counsel in the firm’s Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) practice group. Sophie focuses her practice on M&A (public and private), strategic alliances, joint ventures and divestitures. On the capital markets front, she works with various listing applicants and sponsors in relation to proposed initial public offerings on stock exchanges in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the US, as well as high-yield bond offering projects. She also assists investors, funds and emerging growth companies with venture capital financing, loans and investments.

Sophie works closely with companies in Greater China region in various sectors including technology, semiconductor, financial services, real estate, energy and life sciences. She regularly assists clients with general corporate and compliance matters as well as cross-border international trade issues. She initially started her career as a litigator in the United States and has experience resolving cross-border commercial disputes, including litigation, arbitration (ICC and HKIAC) and mediation.

Prior to joining the firm, Sophie served as senior counsel in the Hong Kong office of another international law firm. Sophie also has in-house counsel experience and was previously seconded to the Global Procurement Department of a major international bank.

Earlier in her career, she spent four years in a large Taiwanese Law firm focusing on company listings, cross-border M&A and general corporate matters. She also practiced in the United States for two and half years, mainly engaging in commercial and international litigation.
