Sean Duffy is an associate in the firm’s Maritime and Offshore Energy practice. Prior to joining the firm, Sean served as an associate at a highly regarded New York maritime and insurance law firm. His practice includes a rage of maritime and transportation matters, including maritime casualties and DOJ prosecutions of International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships related crimes. He also supports on complex cargo matters involving demurrage disputes, cargo contamination, containerized cargo disputes, and other matters before the Society of Maritime Arbitrators, federal courts, and the FMC. Sean regularly conducts onboard vessel investigations in connection with his practice.
Prior to law school, Sean earned his Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation at SUNY Maritime, as well as a US Coast Guard Third Officer Ocean’s Unlimited Tonnage merchant mariner’s license. Following graduation, Sean spent several years working as a merchant officer, advancing his license to Second Officer Ocean’s Unlimited Tonnage and earning a Master of Towing endorsement. He then attended Fordham law school, where he served as the editor of the International Law Journal. Sean’s time at sea grants him unique insights into maritime matters and enables constructive communications with industry personnel and USCG investigators.
