Market Development Manager

K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents in more than 40 offices.

Our Hong Kong office, K&L Gates, is now seeking a Manager, Market Development. This role will have responsibility for developing and executing marketing and business development programs to improve firmwide practice visibility and support client development in Asia, especially for the Firm’s Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei offices. 

Essential Duties

  • Managing and executing the production of pitches and proposals, including formal RFPs, fee estimates, placemats and capability statements in English and Chinese.
  • Planning, managing and executing seminars, conferences and other firm-sponsored events. Developing a strategic rationale around events and evaluating/assessing the ROI on these opportunities. Ability to take primary responsibility for program planning and directing lead follow-up.  
  • Managing and writing directory submissions annually for various ranking publications, working closely with various lawyers in Asia.
  • Ensuring regional marketing materials, experience documents, lawyers biographies and other key collateral items are created and updated to position the firm in the most effective manner.
  • Leveraging existing professional and trade memberships/associations the firm is affiliated with. Supporting related marketing and business development efforts in relation to these memberships. 
  • Having a client growth mindset and supporting client relationship management and related initiatives to foster deeper client relationships and revenue growth, connecting with and working closely with lawyers and other departments where necessary. 
  • Supporting business development efforts by identifying potential leads, collecting and sharing market and industry intelligence, representing the firm at networking events and tracking business development activity.
  • Collaborating with Practice Area Leaders, Practice Group Coordinators, Office Managing Partners and the Asia Market Development Director to co-develop and implement practice- or office-centric business development strategies and plans with practice group or office leadership consistent with the firm's strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other members of the Client Growth team as well as lawyers globally to execute firmwide initiatives and assure integrity of the firm brand.
  • Assisting in the mentoring, training and ongoing development of the wider Asia Market Development Team.
  • Undertaking other projects and tasks as assigned in relation to team infrastructure.

Your Profile

  • Minimum of eight years of marketing, business development and/or sales experience in a professional services firm or closely related work environment. Experience within a large international firm preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree or above, preferably in Business, Translation or Law.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) both for writing and speaking skills. Fluency in other location-specific languages a plus. 
  • Possess a strong knowledge of the Asia market for professional and legal services including business trends and competitive landscape, and solid understanding of the global market environment. 
  • Possess business acumen and technical knowledge in relation to the firm’s core practice groups and industry sectors of focus.
  • Outstanding communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels. Demonstrated ability to influence senior professionals and help them succeed in meeting their business development objectives.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team. Willingness to work hands-on to achieve objectives in an environment with little leverage.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to work.
  • Outstanding project management skills and the ability to juggle competing, shifting priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, research and writing skills.
