Makeba A. Rutahindurwa

Makeba Rutahindurwa is an associate in the firm’s Commercial Disputes practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Makeba focused her practice on political law matters, litigating cases involving constitutional law, voting rights, campaign finance, and redistricting in both state and federal courts across the country. She also previously litigated Section 1983 cases while working at a boutique law firm in Chicago.

Makeba has experience managing all aspects of litigation and counseling clients, and she has successfully litigated both bench and jury trials on behalf of her clients. For example, in 2023, she was part of the trial team that successfully challenged Georgia’s congressional redistricting plan for violating Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. She also helped secure a $14 million jury verdict on behalf of protestors subjected to excessive force while exercising their constitutional rights.

During law school, Makeba spent her 1L summer at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and participated in the International Human Rights Clinic and Immigration Clinic. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Andrew P. Gordon of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada.
