K&L Gates' IP Practice Recognised in World IP Review's 2025 UK Trademark Rankings
Global law firm K&L Gates has been recognised for its non-contentious United Kingdom (UK) trademark work in World IP Review’s (WIPR) 2025 UK Trademarks Rankings. Now in its second year, the list provides a comprehensive overview of the leading Intellectual Property (IP) law firms and practitioners in the UK’s trademark landscape.
In the firm’s profile, the WIPR editors write that “global firm K&L Gates is establishing itself as a major player in the London market with some key client wins over the last year that add to its already impressive roster.” The editors add that “with the high cost of litigation in the UK and reputational risks for larger brands, K&L Gates is often enlisted to resolve disputes under the radar and has built up long term relationships with clients based on trust.”
In addition, London partner Arthur Artinian has been highly recommended as an individual for his contentious work in IP. WIPR states Artinian is “credited with establishing the firm’s IP function in London, and is internationally recognised for his work on cross-border IP counselling, prosecution, litigation, enforcement, and transactional matters.”
WIPR also notes partners Simon Casinader and Catherine Adam, senior associates Georgina Rigg and Serena Totino, associate Millie Pierce, and paralegal Sophie Verstraeten as key team members from the Intellectual Property team in the London office.
These rankings by WIPR differentiate between non-contentious work, which typically involves trademark filing, prosecution, strategy, and portfolio management, and contentious work, encompassing trademark litigation, dispute resolution, and enforcement. With evidence submitted by ranked firms, as well as client and peer testimonials, the rankings highlight the growing overlap in the roles of trademark lawyers and solicitors.
K&L Gates’ IP practice boasts more than 250 lawyers and professionals – including more than 115 registered patent lawyers, agents, and technology specialists with technical or advanced science degrees, nearly 30 with doctorates – who devote their practices to helping clients establish, enforce, and leverage their intellectual property rights worldwide. The practice filed more than 5,535 patent applications and 4,455 trademarks worldwide in 2024.
