K&L Gates Adds Commercial Disputes Partner to New York Office

26 February 2025

New York – Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Todd Fishman as a partner in its New York office. He joins the firm’s Commercial Disputes practice group with a focus on defense of antitrust, commodities markets, securities investigations, and complex class actions. Fishman joins K&L Gates from A&O Shearman.

With more than 30 years of experience and notable work on defense of regulatory matters and complex civil litigation, Fishman has represented companies and individuals in federal and state courts throughout the United States and in proceedings before the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Federal Reserve Board, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and state attorneys general in matters concerning accounting fraud, securities fraud and financial reporting, commodities fraud and manipulation, antitrust and competition matters, and corrupt practices and money laundering.

Fishman also has a focus on the crypto and digital assets space, as well as enforcement trends and disruptive trading practices in digital asset markets.

John Bicks, managing partner of K&L Gates’ New York office, commented: “Todd is a seasoned litigator whose broad range of experience handling complex disputes and investigations will fit well with, and nicely supplement, the firm’s existing capabilities. We are delighted to have Todd join us in our New York office.”

In addition, Fishman has represented clients in significant antitrust matters. He frequently represents clients in government investigations and civil litigation involving the intersection of antitrust and the financial markets. In recent years, he has represented global financial services firms in DOJ and regulatory investigations and multidistrict class action proceedings relating to alleged manipulation and collusion in the markets for credit default swaps, credit default swap indices, precious metals, and US Treasury instruments.

Melissa Tea, a leader of the firm’s global Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, stated: “Todd brings to K&L Gates a breadth and depth of litigation experience that will further augment our East Coast capabilities and support the practice’s strategic growth priorities, particularly in the areas of complex class actions and technology-related litigation. We know he will add tremendous value to our clients and are excited to have him join our team.”

Fishman’s arrival closely follows the addition Orange County partner Eva Weiler and Seattle partner John Bender to the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice in the past five months. In December, the firm’s New York office welcomed Maria Cáceres-Boneau to its Labor, Employment, and Workplace Safety practice.

With lawyers in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America, K&L Gates’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice is positioned to assist clients in resolving their disputes at the local, national, and international levels. The firm’s litigators are some of the foremost practitioners in their field, with many ranked nationally and internationally and including fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Law Institute, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, among others.

K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents.
