2025 Northeast Chapter Winter Summit, Hosted by Energy Bar Association
Panel – Development of Data Centers and Associated Energy Infrastructure
This group of panelists will remark on what is driving the need for data center development. They will discuss how much data center infrastructure is needed to meet the requirements of artificial intelligence proliferation in the United States. The speakers may remark on how the locations of data centers are determined. It is expected that the speakers will highlight the operating characteristics of data centers. The speakers may also discuss how to approach data center development with the local public utility and what sort of electric and gas infrastructure planning is needed to accommodate the siting and construction of data centers in local areas. Speakers may present on the challenges of grid and/or pipeline constraints factoring into their development decisions.
Panel – Energy Resource and Supply Needs to Fuel the Data Center Boom
This group of panelists will explore the concept of generation resource collocation with data center infrastructure and remark on the challenges and benefits applicable to such arrangements. The speakers will also address how data centers may impact wholesale market prices and design in the northeast. They may also discuss the anticipated or potential effects on resource adequacy requirements necessary to ensuring sufficient energy capacity is available. The panel may remark on what policies could be deemed useful to accelerating employment of electric and gas supply in areas where data centers need it most. Speakers may explore what the future resource mix may look like as a result, including the roles of nuclear, gas-fired generation and power purchase agreements.
