K&L Gates Adds Recently Retired U.S. Congressman Mike Doyle to Public Policy and Law Practice
Pittsburgh - The Pittsburgh office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes former United States Congressman Mike Doyle as a government affairs counselor in the Public Policy and Law practice. Doyle retired at the conclusion of the latest term of the House of Representatives after 14 terms of service representing the 18th District of Pennsylvania, which includes the city of Pittsburgh and 53 other communities in Allegheny County.
Doyle served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of only four exclusive committees in the House. There, he sat on the subcommittees on Communications and Technology and Energy and chaired the subcommittee on Communications and Technology.
Throughout his career, Doyle worked aggressively on the Energy and Commerce Committee to address climate change through the development of new, more energy-efficient technology and alternative and renewable sources of energy. He also worked to restore Net Neutrality and promote the availability of reliable, affordable, high-speed broadband internet service for all Americans.
“Congressman Doyle’s deep experience in areas of energy, robotics, and health care makes him an ideal fit for this office, and will be of great value to our clients in those industries,” said Thomas J. Smith, managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office and co-managing partner, United States. “Of course, he will also add tremendous value across our national and global platform because of his years serving on and leading consequential committees in Congress. We are greatly pleased that, of his many options, he chose to join our firm and remain in his beloved Pittsburgh.”
A member of the House Democratic Caucus, Doyle was the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Autism Caucus, also known as the Coalition for Autism Research and Education (C.A.R.E.). He was also one of the founders and co-chairs of the House Distributed Generation Caucus, which works to promote the widespread adoption of decentralized power generation technology that is both fuel efficient and environmentally friendly and reduces peak demands on the United States’ over-utilized electricity transmission grid. In addition, Doyle was a member of the House Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Caucus, which promotes hydrogen and fuel cells.
Doyle also co-founded and chaired the House Robotics Caucus, which works to ensure that the United States remains globally competitive in the field of robotics. He served on several other important Caucuses, such as steel, human rights, and the internet.
Karishma Page, co-leader of K&L Gates’ Public Policy and Law practice, remarked: “We are thrilled to have Congressman Doyle join our Public Policy and Law practice. Having served as a subcommittee chair of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee and chair of the House Robotics Caucus, Mike brings invaluable experience to clients across various industries including energy, health care, and technology.”
With a significant team of bipartisan lawyers and policy professionals who have more than 500 years of combined government experience, members of K&L Gates’ Public Policy and Law practice work with clients through the entire policy life cycle—from legislation to regulation and dispute resolution. The group has grown to one of the largest policy practices of any global integrated law firm. The team includes several former U.S. House members, senior executive branch staff, senior congressional staff, senior counsel and staff at various government agencies, senior state officials and gubernatorial aides, military officials, and individuals who were involved in recent presidential campaigns and transitions.
Doyle commented: “I look forward to continue assisting Pittsburgh-area and other businesses, universities, and non-profits with accessing federal support and helping them navigate the complexities of the legislative and executive branches in Washington, D.C.”
Doyle is the practice’s third former member of Congress, joining former Representatives Jeff Denham (R-CA) and Bart Gordon (D-TN).
