Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Edgington worked as a mechanical design engineer designing a variety of different types of equipment for automated production lines. In 1991, Mr. Edgington joined K&L Gates as an associate attorney and has been a partner in the firm since 1998. Mr. Edgington is a member of K&L Gates' Intellectual Property and Trademark and Copyright practice groups. His practice embraces all aspects of intellectual property acquisition, maintenance, defense and enforcement. Mr. Edgington’s experience includes the acquisition of foreign and domestic patents and trademarks, patentability and infringement studies, new product clearance, intellectual property audits, patent reexaminations, technology transfer and license agreements, as well as the preparation of opinions and other agreements relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Mr. Edgington manages the patent and trademark portfolios of a number of companies and provides day-to-day intellectual property counseling to large and small companies as well as to individual inventors. Mr. Edgington has been involved in various types of intellectual property litigation including patent infringement litigation before the federal district courts and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Edgington has also practiced before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Mr. Edgington has also served on the Firm’s Hiring and Associate Committees.
Mr. Edgington’s technical experience and concentration primarily involves the mechanical arts. Some types of technologies and devices that Mr. Edgington has been involved with include telecommunications devices, medical devices, engines and transmissions, mining equipment, material handling equipment, automated manufacturing processes and inspection equipment, remote control vehicles and robots, pumps and valves, air handling equipment, photography, architectural building products and construction methods, power tools, sporting goods, and toys and games.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Edgington held various engineering and production management positions at PPG Industries.
