Mr. Ali is a litigator with a decade of experience in policyholder-side insurance coverage litigation, mass torts litigation, and appellate litigation.

Insurance Coverage

Mr. Ali regularly assists policyholders (corporations and government entities) seeking insurance coverage in a variety of contexts, including environmental clean-ups, product liabilities, long-tail toxic exposure liabilities, marine-cargo losses, and employment-practices liabilities. For example, he successfully litigated and obtained millions of dollars in insurance coverage for an oil trading company whose petroleum products were destroyed in an explosion at a seaport terminal; he successfully litigated a coverage case seeking reformation of an insurance policy; and he is currently counsel of record for several clients seeking insurance coverage for costs incurred at environmental clean-up sites (including Superfund Sites) in various states.

Mass Torts

Mr. Ali defends companies in toxic and mass tort cases in federal district courts across the country. For example, he actively defended an equipment manufacturer in numerous asbestos personal-injury cases in federal district courts, including hundreds of cases in the asbestos MDL court in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In this role, he has secured numerous defense rulings on summary judgment.
He also serves as national coordinating counsel for a company’s nationwide asbestos docket, managing outside local counsel actively handling the company’s defense in state and federal courts in various jurisdictions.

Appellate Litigation

Mr. Ali has litigated in numerous state and federal appellate courts across the country. He has assisted clients in overturning jury verdicts on appeal, including a recent appellate ruling in Florida overturning the jury verdict against the client and, instead, granting a directed verdict in its favor. He also litigated numerous appeals for a company to help it successfully secure its right to remove a certain class of asbestos personal-injury cases from state to federal court.
