Robert M. Crea counsels investment advisers, private fund managers and broker-dealers on a variety of fund formation, product structuring, transactional, regulatory and compliance, and securities law matters. He regularly works with clients to structure and document U.S. and offshore private investment funds and assists clients with a variety of state and federal regulatory and compliance issues. He also represents pension plans and other institutional investors in connection with their investments in hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and real estate funds. Mr. Crea also counsels emerging and middle-market companies regarding formation and financing, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and periodic securities reporting. Mr. Crea is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute.
Mr. Crea previously served as a director for the multibillion dollar private equity department of a publicly traded real estate company. In this role, he was responsible for new fund formation and the ongoing governance of multiple funds representing approximately $18 billion in assets under management. During his tenure, he assisted in raising approximately $5 billion in new capital from sovereign wealth funds, international and domestic pension funds, endowments, foundations, and discretionary managers.
Following law school, Mr. Crea clerked for Judge John T. Noonan, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Before law school, he worked on Wall Street, both as an M&A investment banker and as an equity research analyst.
