Dr. Olaf Fiss advises national and international media and IT companies on all aspects of IP/IT law, including copyright, trademark, unfair competition and data protection law.
His experience includes, inter alia, complex copyright litigation, rights clearance for internet content providers (e.g. music-on-demand and video-on-demand platforms), software license agreements, trademark disputes and collecting societies. A special focus of his practice is copyright-related advice for radio and TV broadcasting companies. He also advises on M&A transactions in the media and technology sector.
In addition, Mr. Fiss conducts due diligence investigations into national and foreign agents and business partners and assists in ensuring that companies are in compliance with German and foreign anti-corruption legislation.
Prior to joining K&L Gates in October 2010, Dr. Fiss wrote his doctoral thesis on “Liability for Defective Software”. From 2007 to 2009, during his postgraduate judicial clerkship (Referendariat), he worked as a junior counsel in leading international law firms, focusing on corporate and IP/IT law. From 2005 to 2006, Dr. Fiss worked as an inhouse lawyer in the legal department of a U.S. software vendor in London. He obtained a Master degree (DESS) in International Business Law in Paris in 2005 and his accreditation as a “Specialist Lawyer for Copyright and Media Law” (Fachanwalt für Urheber- und Medienrecht) in 2014.
