Nolan R. Hubbard is a PTO-registered patent lawyer with a background in electrical engineering. He concentrates his practice on intellectual property law focusing on patent prosecution, litigation, counseling, opinion work and due diligence in a wide range of technological areas including electrical, software, and business method inventions.
Nolan handles domestic and foreign patent prosecution matters, drafting and prosecuting patent applications through to issuance. Nolan’s experience includes appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, as well as strategic reissue and reexamination proceedings. He advises clients on all aspects of prosecution and portfolio management, including strategic counseling for global intellectual property portfolios with utility patents, trademarks, and design patents.

Nolan’s experience includes infringement and invalidity analysis, fact discovery, motion practice, expert reports, claim construction briefs, and pre-trial and post-trial briefs.
Nolan counsels clients on various other patent related issues and performs due diligence and opinion work. He has prepared noninfringement, infringement, invalidity, intervening rights analysis and opinions relating to dialysis systems, power systems, microprocessors, internet advertising, online music services, flow meters, and wind turbines. He has performed a large scale freedom to operate analysis for a flagship product and monitored reexamination and litigation activities of both competitors and non-practicing entities. Nolan has also performed analysis and negotiation preparations for patent portfolio acquisitions from the buyer’s side and the seller’s side, including due diligence analysis on both small and large patent portfolios totaling hundreds of U.S. and foreign patents and applications, including analysis relating to infringement, validity, ownership, and portfolio flexibility.
