Ms. Lillas is a Senior Associate who focuses on enforcing and defending intellectual property rights, including trade marks, registered designs and copyright.

Ms. Lillas has represented clients in legal proceedings concerning patent and trade mark infringement, in addition to acting in cases concerning misuse of confidential information and contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). She has extensive experience in both state and Federal Courts of Australia, as well as Trade Mark Office matters.

Ms. Lillas has assisted a range of Australian and international clients to protect their brand and intellectual property rights, including government agencies, domestic and multinational corporations and not-for-profit organisations.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates Ms. Lillas worked for a number of years as a research assistant at the Asian Law Centre at the University of Melbourne. In this role she assisted academics in their legal research and preparation of journal articles and books for publication. She also had a key role in facilitating an annual international visiting scholars program at Melbourne Law School in association with the Supreme Court of Japan.

  • Ms. Lillas was a participant in the IPSANZ Victorian Christmas Moot, 2015.
  • Management and prosecution of large trade mark portfolios for a number of ASX listed and international companies, including Paradigm Biopharmaceuticals Ltd, Parnell Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd and the Pinnacle Investment Group. 
  • Acting in trade mark prosecution and opposition proceedings before IP Australia, including on behalf of Sydney Fish Market Pty Ltd, Deks Industries Pty Ltd, Cabcharge Australia Limited, the University of Melbourne and the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation. 
  • Advising clients regarding the availability and registrability of trade marks in Australia and internationally including trade mark clearance and searching. 
  • Acting in anti-counterfeiting proceedings in the Federal Court seeking urgent interlocutory relief in the form of search and seizure orders and executing the orders at the premises. 
  • Acting on behalf of BHP Billiton in Supreme Court of Appeal proceedings brought against German manufacturer Steuler Services GmBH involving claims of misleading and deceptive conduct 
  • Acting on behalf of iSelect in Federal Court proceedings in defence of claims made by Bupa for misleading and deceptive conduct in insurance advertising campaigns
