Michael Pfeifer is an associate in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, where he is a member of the Public Policy and Law practice group. Mr. Pfeifer focuses his practice on lobbying compliance, campaign finance, and governmental ethics issues. He also assists clients in the advocacy of policy initiatives before Congress and regulatory agencies.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Pfeifer was an intern for Senator Sherrod Brown and a legal clerk for former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler. He was a K&L Gates summer associate in 2014.

  • Drafted equal air-time request letter and negotiated the resulting agreement between a Presidential candidate and a major broadcasting network.
  • Advised corporate client on creation and implementation of compliance programs regarding political contributions, lobbying tracking, provision of gifts to public officials, and Foreign Corrupt Practice Act (FCPA) prohibitions.
  • Successfully defended Massachusetts homecare company in state campaign finance investigation involving allegations of straw donor political contributions and corporate reimbursement.
  • Business development counsel for start-up get-out-the-vote organization as it related to state election law compliance.
  • Advised corporate clients on formation of PAC, including compliance with PAC merger requirements, and provided guidance on best practices for success with those committees.
  • Advised non-profit client on corporate formation requirements in District of Columbia and tax-exempt status compliance under IRS regulations.
  • Business development counsel on behalf of manufacturing company in an effort to secure favorable economic and tax incentive programs from state and local governments relating to potential construction of facility.
