Melanie Curtis is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate practice group. She deals with all aspects of commercial property transactions, including development, investment and letting. She has experience in dealing with structured transactions, including stamp duty schemes, sales and leasebacks, and re-gearing of tenants' leases. 

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm in 1995, Melanie was a partner with another law firm where she acted for local and public authorities in relation to major shopping centre developments.  She qualified as a lawyer in 1982.

  • Led the team acting for Topland Group Plc in the acquisition and financing of King William Street House and 150 Aldersgate Street in the City of London
  • Advising Londis (Holdings) Limited on the acquisition of additional land for the further development of their Thamesmead distribution Centre, the restructuring of their leases and provision of finance by their landlord for the construction works
  • Acting for London St James's Trust in connection with the acquisition of 50 Jermyn Street London SW1 from Alfred Dunhill Limited and an agreement for its redevelopment and lease back of the retail elements to Dunhill
  • Acting for Henderson UK Retail Warehouse Fund on the acquisition of  retail warehouse parks in Swansea, Wrexham and Manchester
  • Acting for Arrowcroft Group in connection with the relocation of the Automobile Association National Training Centre; the transaction involved the acquisition of the Automobile's Association's existing premises and the development of a state of the art facility on a new site; also dealing with the sale of the former training centre for residential redevelopment, with overage payment to the Automobile Association
  • Acting for a private property company in the acquisition of a portfolio of c.50 former petrol filling stations for redevelopment
  • Advising Henderson UK Retail Warehouse Fund in connection with the exercise of pre-emption rights to acquire beneficial interests in the Birmingham Shopping Park
  • Advising CB Richard Ellis Realty Trust in connection with the acquisition and funding of £67.3m worth of institutional investment properties
  • Led the team advising CB Richard Ellis Realty Trust in connection with the negotiation of a joint venture agreement with Goodman Group to acquire up to £1billion worth of developed logistics investments in the UK and Continental Europe
  • Acted for Henderson Central London Office Fund in the acquisition of a mixed use development site at the Regent Quarter Kings Cross and its development jointly with P&O Estates
  • Acted for Jones Lang Lasalle Corporate Finance Limited in connection with the acquisition, funding and development of a site at Waterloo for Premier Inns
