Mr. Louik is an associate in the firm’s Pittsburgh office. He concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation, focusing on insurance coverage, product liability and international arbitration. He also represents financial institutions and mortgage servicers in various real estate litigation matters. Mr. Louik is experienced in all stages of litigation and in domestic and international arbitration, including with AAA, ICDR and ICC arbitrations. His experience includes fact investigation, managing complex document collections and productions, conducting fact and expert witness depositions and examinations at trial, motions practice, and drafting pre and post trial briefs.

Mr. Louik’s commercial litigation experience includes commercial contract and warranty cases, and he has represented clients defending both toxic and non-toxic product liability matters. With respect to insurance coverage, Mr. Louik has represented policyholders in a variety of coverage disputes, including those involving long-tail liabilities related to asbestos-containing products and environmental damage. He has represented policyholders in seeking coverage under general liability polices, professional liability policies, and first-party property policies.

Professional Background

Before joining the firm, Mr. Louik was a summer associate at K&L Gates. He also worked as a student attorney for the Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender.  Prior to law school, he worked as a paralegal for the New York County District Attorney.

  • Counsel to clients in significant international (ICC and ICRD) and domestic (AAA) arbitrations.
  • Counsel to aluminum manufacturer in international dispute involving breach of contract and breach of warranty.

Insurance Coverage

  • Counsel to various policyholders involved in insurance litigation against multiple insurers for coverage of asbestos-related product liabilities, including an on-going suit seeking declaratory judgment of rights to insurance coverage for asbestos liabilities under historic general liability policies.
  • Counsel to policyholder in tortious interference case against the Berkshire Hathaway entities, National Indemnity Company and Resolute Management, Inc., as well as in related arbitrations against Underwriters at Lloyd’s and AIG Insurers.
  • Counsel to oil & gas company seeking insurance recoveries in connection with liabilities resulting from well collision.
