Mr. Farquhar is an experienced litigator who has acted for a variety of Australian and international clients in a wide range of commercial disputes.

His experience includes large scale and complex commercial litigation in a number of Australian superior courts. Mr. Farquhar has experience acting for clients on general commercial disputes, including contractual claims, tax disputes, regulatory matters and other claims.

Mr. Farquhar has acted for some of Australia's largest banks and financial institutions, as well as multinational manufacturing clients in both the consumer goods and automotive manufacturing industries.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. Farquhar worked for a top tier Australian commercial law firm. His practice consisted primarily of large scale commercial litigation and complex commercial disputes on a broad range of matters.

  • Acting for a major Australian bank defending a range of proceedings arising out of the corporate collapses of Primebroker Securities Limited and Opes Prime Group Limited, including in the Supreme Court of Victoria and Federal Court of Australia.
  • Acting for an Italian subsidiary of the Philips group of companies in its defence of a complex shareholder oppression proceeding in the Supreme Court of Victoria, and related disputes.
  • Acting for the Australian subsidiary of the Philips group of companies in relation to the recovery of confidential information.
  • Representing senior executives on behalf of a major Australian bank in relation to investigations undertaken by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and Australian Federal Police.
  • Advising corporate and government entities on internal corporate governance matters, including the maintenance and protection of privileged communications.
  • Assisting clients in regulatory proceedings and investigations involving the Australian Taxation Office and the ASIC.
  • Assisting clients on document and information management, both internally and in dealing with regulators and other third parties.
  • General advisory work and litigation in relation to privilege and other commercial and contractual disputes, including urgent interlocutory proceedings.
