7 February 2017
- The Washington, D.C., office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Barry J. Hart as an of counsel in the tax-exempt organizations and non-profit institutions practice. He joins K&L Gates from Winston & Strawn LLP.
Hart has more than 40 years of experience advising United States and foreign tax-exempt organizations — including charitable and educational nonprofits and business leagues — conducting worldwide programs and operations. He also counsels multinational organizations on international taxation issues, transfer pricing, cross-border operations, mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures.
In addition, Hart’s practice involves defending clients in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits, litigation, and other tax controversies in the IRS Office of Appeals. This includes representing tax-exempt organizations and for-profit corporations in connection with private letter rulings from the IRS National Office.
“We are excited to welcome Barry to the firm,” said David T. Case, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office. “His extensive practice will enhance the high-quality legal services we provide our tax-exempt and non-profit clients around the globe.”
K&L Gates’ tax-exempt organizations and non-profit institutions practice advises private foundations, community foundations, public charities, supporting organizations, donor-advised funds, private operating foundations, health care providers, universities, private schools, religious organizations, trade associations, and other tax-exempt organizations on issues arising throughout the phases of a tax-exempt organization’s life cycle.
