K&L Gates Further Bolsters Investment Management Practice with New York Partner Addition
18 February 2016
New York - The New York office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Robert Sichel as a partner in the firm’s investment management practice, where he will oversee the ERISA fiduciary group. Sichel joins K&L Gates from investment and risk management advisor Pacific Global Advisors where, as General Counsel, he led a team of legal, compliance, and risk professionals.
Sichel advises investment managers and other financial institutions on the fiduciary responsibility and prohibited transaction rules of ERISA. He also counsels defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans on investment matters, governance, de-risking, and the handling of service providers, and assists investment managers and institutional investor clients with investment management agreements and trading-related agreements. He is the co-author of a 2014 guidebook aimed at helping corporate pension plans navigate the complexities of trading derivatives post the Dodd-Frank Act.
“Rob has held senior-level positions at major financial institutions, including Pacific Global Advisors, JPMorgan Chase, and Bear Stearns,” said John A. Bicks, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ New York office. “At K&L Gates, Rob will leverage this knowledge in overseeing the firm’s ERISA fiduciary practice.”
K&L Gates’ investment management practice is one of the largest and most experienced in the world, with more than 150 lawyers in offices in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia devoted to assisting the investment management and professional investor communities.
Sichel is the fifth partner or of counsel addition to K&L Gates’ New York office in the past six months, following the earlier arrivals of fellow investment management partners Derek Steingarten, Bruce MacLennan, and Edward Dartley as well as tax-exempt organizations/nonprofit institutions lawyer Dorothy Robinson.
