Ms. Askew has extensive experience representing national clients in complex commercial litigation in a variety of industries. She also represents clients in significant employment matters involving claims of race, disability, gender and age discrimination, sexual harassment and in litigation involving business torts, trade secrets, non-compete, and non-solicitation and employment agreements. She has successfully tried cases to non-jury and jury verdicts in state and federal courts around the country, and handled appeals before the Texas Courts of Appeals and the Fourth, Fifth and Eighth Circuit Courts of Appeals.

In 2005, 2012 and 2015, Lawdragon listed her as one of the “500 Leading Lawyers in America.” The 25th anniversary issue of Texas Lawyer selected her as one of the “25 Greatest Texas Lawyers of the Past Quarter Century.” In 2014, Texas Lawyer awarded her its inaugural “Lifetime Achiever-Winning Women Lawyers” award for being “a woman that clearly stands out among her peers.” She has been included in the “Best Lawyers in America” for Commercial Litigation for more than ten years and as a Texas “Super Lawyer” since 2002. D Magazine has repeatedly selected her as one of the “Best Lawyers” in Dallas. She has received the highest awards for professionalism, including the Dallas Bar Association and Texas Center for Legal Ethics Morris Harrell Professionalism Award and the Luther Soules III Award for Professionalism presented by the State Bar of Texas. In 2014, Texas Super Lawyers again named her to the lists of “The Top 100 Lawyers in Texas,” The Top 50 Women Lawyers in Texas,” and “The Top 100” Lawyers in the Dallas Fort Worth region. In 2015, the American Bar Association awarded her The “Spirit of Excellence” Award for her ground-breaking work on diversity in the legal profession.

Ms. Askew is a long-time leader in the American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, and Dallas Bar Association. She is a member of the ABA House of Delegates, Past Chair of the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association, the first lawyer of color to serve as chair, and previously served on the Board of Directors of ALI-ABA. She is a member of the Council and the Membership Committee of The American Law Institute and has chaired key ALI committees. She chaired the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors in 2003-04 after prior service as chair of the Section of Litigation and the Continuing Legal Education Committee. She is the current Texas State Delegate in the ABA House of Delegates.

Ms. Askew is a frequent author and speaker on discovery, evidentiary, business litigation, and employment law topics, and has received the Gene Cavin Award, the highest recognition from the State Bar of Texas for contributions to CLE. She serves on the boards of local and national civic, charitable and professional organizations.
