Julie Bouchard is a counsel in the firm’s Paris office where she is a member of the labor and employment practice.

With a 15-year long experience in the industrial relations sector, Julie assists French and foreign clients on all their labor and employment related issues. She is especially knowledgeable on collective negotiations and human resources management, in particular in insolvency procedures.

Julie also accompanies her clients on their strategic transactions such as M&A, restructuring, harmonization of collective status and helps them dealing with their recurring and constantly renewed collective problems of working time, relationship with the employees’ representatives especially in tense social climates.

Julie also has a strong experience in implementing individual and collective dismissal and redundancy proceedings as well as handling the related negotiations, towards which she has a concrete and realistic approach to suggest pragmatic solutions. Julie is also experienced in data protection and employee privacy issues as well as with negotiating with the French Data Protection Agency (“CNIL”).

Julie is a member of the firm's Global Associate Liaison Committee.

Professional Background

Julie started working in 1998 as in-house counsel in charge of Human Resources legal matters. Since 2004, she works as a labor and employment lawyer with French law firms with international clients.

  • Working conditions, health and safety: Assisting the French subsidiary of an international group leader in the food packaging industry including negotiating with the works council and the health & safety committee on reorganizing working hours and working conditions;
  • Mergers, acquisitions, transfer of employees and benefits, post-merger employee integration: Assisting sellers and purchasers in due diligence, negotiating the sale / purchase agreement’s representations and guaranties in connection with employees and benefits and providing strategic advice on handling the labor consequences of the transaction within the plastic industry; medical equipment; metallurgical industries and on-line touristic agencies;
  • Insolvency procedure: Negotiating with the staff representatives and the unions on the working conditions to be implemented further to the contemplated purchase and included in the insolvency recovery plan submitted to the commercial court in the naval shipyard area; Representing a UK liquidator in a litigation opposing 11 former employees of the French branch office of the bankrupt company to the UK liquidator, French liquidator, UK purchaser of the bankrupt company assets and French unemployment insurance fund, in the online trading services;
  • Corporate downsizing, Redundancy Plans, Voluntary Departure Plans: Advising French subsidiaries of US based companies in negotiating with unions and employee representatives the financial conditions, training and relocation proposals as well as union agreements on future management of the headcount, in the metallurgical and chemical industries as well as in the new technology;
  • Data-protection, Employee privacy: Due diligence of company level of compliance with French data protection Act 1978, drafting and assisting in the implementation of data protection agency in connection with same, for airline companies and new technology leading brand;
  • Compensation and Benefits: Advising and assisting a US bank in setting a variable compensation program for its French employees and draft connected press releases and memoranda for regulated market purpose.
