Mr. Hall is a technology, intellectual property and outsourcing lawyer and acts for major Australian and multinational organisations in the energy and resources, IT, life sciences and telecommunications industries. He advises on a broad range of IT transactions and IP related issues, including IT procurement, cloud agreements, implementation and outsourcing projects and IP licensing and commercialisation. Mr. Hall also advises on regulatory issues in the telecommunications and media sectors.

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. Hall worked in a global professional services firm within its Tax and Legal team, gaining knowledge and experience in the areas of tax and commercial law.

Technology projects
  • Advising a leading Australian integrated energy company to put in place a new CRM system with Salesforce, including negotiating all contractual documents and providing ongoing post-execution support. 
  • Advising on the acquisition and management of New generic Top-Level Domains including the ".monash" and ".physio" New gTLDs, including drafting and negotiating Registry-Registrar Agreements with registrars. 
  • Advising an Australian energy retailer on its digital transformation program with Adobe, including negotiating all contractual documents for managed, on-demand and professional services.
  • Advising a leading Australian integrated energy company on its retail transformation project which included the implementation of a SAP-based retail billing platform and putting in place business process outsourcing arrangements both prior to and following implementation. 
  • Advising a Queensland State owned corporation in relation to the remediation of delay and other performance issues associated with a project for the design, build, test, implementation and management of a critical information system in relation to the provision of essential services.

Cloud

  • Advising clients on strategic and procurement issues associated with the transition towards cloud based solutions, including negotiating agreements with SAP, Oracle, HP, IBM, AWS, Rackspace, OpenText, Microsoft and many other small to medium sized cloud vendors. 
  • Advising a Northern Territory Government-owned corporation on the implementation of a cloud-based customer billing platform. We advised our client on all aspects of the transaction, from initial RFP development, drafting all contract documentation, through to vendor down-selection and negotiation.

Data Protection, Privacy and Regulatory

  • Advising numerous clients on data protection and privacy aspects of technology arrangements including public cloud agreements. 
  • Advising a global life sciences company in relation to privacy issues and its disclosure obligations under Australian privacy laws. 
  • Advising a provider of ICT services in relation to a serious IT security incident, including in relation to the recovery of expenses incurred as a result of the security incident.

Intellectual Property

  • Drafting and negotiating various intellectual property licences and commercialisation agreements, including biotechnology specific agreements such as material transfer agreements and collaboration research agreements for Australian universities and research institutes. 
  • Drafting an IP licence and commercialisation agreement for a large Victorian hospital in relation to an employee's invention.
