John Scarito is an associate at the firm’s Pittsburgh office. His practice areas include patent preparation and prosecution.

Mr. Scarito’s technical concentration is in the mechanical arts. He also has broad experience prosecuting business method patent applications including: financial systems, banking systems, credit/loan systems, fund transfer systems, bill payment systems, authorization/authentication systems, trading/auction systems, insurance systems and advertising systems, as well as their supporting hardware/devices, computer software, and Internet/computer networks.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Scarito served over seven and a half years as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Before pursing a career in law, Mr. Scarito gained mechanical engineering design and product launch experience at two Ohio companies.

Mr. Scarito has experience in all aspects of patent prosecution including reviewing invention disclosures, performing patentability searches, drafting claims, interpreting claim language, responding to prosecutorial arguments, and preparing appeals.
