Ms. Jackes is a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer. She has more than 12 years experience in professional indemnity and disciplinary matters, primarily representing medical and other health care professionals. Ms. Jackes acts for professionals in civil claims for negligence and before disciplinary tribunals and registration boards including the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Medical Board of Australia, the Dental Board of Australia, and their predecessors. She acts for medical practitioners with respect to investigations by the Queensland Health Quality and Complaints Commission, coronial inquests and Australian Medicare reviews.

She also has experience acting for lawyers in negligence claims and in commercial litigation matters. Ms. Jackes’ clients include a large national Australian medical professional indemnity organisation and a large international dental professional indemnity organisation.

Professional/Civic Activities

  • Medico-Legal Society of Queensland member
  • Managing a caseload of civil compensation claims, disciplinary proceedings, coronial inquiries, and Australian Medicare reviews.
  • Acting for medical practitioners in disputes with specialist colleagues, hospitals and professional colleges.
  • Acting for two overseas trained medical practitioners in successful applications to obtain a stay of a decision of the Medical Board of Australia to refuse their registration in circumstances where the practitioners were at risk of losing their immigration visas because of the loss of their registration and employment.
  • Assisting a partner acting for the Director of Medical Services at a Queensland hospital in successful proceedings to have a commission of inquiry stayed for apprehended bias.
