Frank Thomas is a partner in the firm's banking and asset finance practice in Frankfurt. He has extensive experience with domestic and cross-border financing, rail and aircraft finance transactions, infrastructure projects, privatizations, restructurings, public-private partnerships, leasing as well as advising public authorities or corporates acting for public authorities.

His main focus is on projects and transactions in the following sectors: rail, aviation, technology, energy, infrastructure as well as utilities.

In the asset finance sector he advises corporates, financial institutions, private equity funds, public transport authorities, state governments and other public authorities.

He is recognized among peers, clients and by Best Lawyers/Handelsblatt 2018, Chambers Europe 2015–2017 and Chambers Global 20112015 as a leading asset finance practitioner for Asset Finance and Transportation with an enviable track record of rail and aviation finance work (“one of the most specialized people in rail finance”, Chambers Global 2012).

  • Advising Bank of America Merrill Lynch as seller/lessor on the redelivery of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft and the ongoing sale of the aircraft.
  • Advising an aircraft lessor in Asia in respect of the sale and purchase of one Boeing 737-8k5 aircraft and the lease of such aircraft to a European airline.
  • Advising Go-Ahead Group plc, one of the largest public transportation operators in the United Kingdom, on the market entry in Germany.
  • Advising Paribus Capital GmbH and Dutch Infrastructure Funds on the purchase and financing of 15 new Bombardier TRAXX locomotives, 90 passenger wagons, coaches and three ALSTOM diesel regional passenger multiple units for the concession “Netz West” in the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein (Hamburg to Westerland/Sylt).
  • Advising Go-Ahead Deutschland Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH, a subsidiary of Go-Ahead Group plc, one of the largest public transportation operators in the U.K. as bidder in the tender process for the operation of the regional passenger train concession Elektro-Netz Niedersachsen-Ost (“ENNO”).
  • Advising an investment management company as bidder on the procurement and financing of new regional passenger multiple trains for project Rhein-Ruhr-Express (RRX), the largest regional passenger rail project in North-Rhine Westphalia.
  • Advising a US financial institution on the financing of one Cessna Citation Sovereign aircraft on lease to an airline in Germany.
  • Advising Portigon AG Tokyo branch as lender, facility agent and security agent on the restructuring of three Airbus A330-343 aircraft.
  • Representing Japanese investors on four Airbus A320-214 aircraft financings (JOLCO’s).
  • Advising a leading company for aircraft container management services, on the outsourcing and servicing agreement with a leading US airline in relation to 15,000 aircraft containers.

  • Advising one of the largest European urban transportation operators as bidder in the tender process for the first part of the S-Bahn Berlin (Ringbahn), the largest contract for passenger transport (including procurement of vehicles) in Germany.
  • Advising a banking consortium as lenders in respect of a EUR 300 million financing for more than 60 new ALSTOM diesel passenger trains. This transaction is the largest rail financing for a private rail operator in Germany ever.
  • Representation of a high net worth individual in Eastern Europe with respect to the acquisition and financing of a Gulfstream G550 aircraft.
  • Advising Deutsche Leasing on a German-French cross-border lease transaction for Alstom locomotives.
  • Advising KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH as arranger, facility agent, security agent and original lender and HSH Nordbank AG as co-arranger and original lender in connection with the syndicated financing of approximately 5,000 railway carriages for AAE Group.
