Nicholas F. Lenning

Nicholas Lenning is a patent litigator with experience guiding complex cases from initial pleadings through trial and appeal. He has represented clients involving a large range of complex technologies, including media application software, semiconductor devices and other electronic circuitry, data storage technology, chemical and pharmaceutical processes, and mechanical devices.

Nicholas has experience in all phases of patent litigation and assists clients to develop winning strategies on patent infringement, validity, and claim construction. He has drafted dispositive motions and Markman briefs, worked closely with experts to draft reports and prepare for testimony, and managed large-scale document discovery. Nicholas has also been a member of multiple trial teams, crafting opening and closing statements, as well as direct and cross examinations of both expert and fact witnesses.

Nicholas has litigated in courts across the country, including Alabama, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington. Nicholas also has experience with Section 337 trials before the International Trade Commission and Petitions for Inter Partes Review before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

In addition to patent litigation, Nicholas has managed complex civil and criminal cases in a range of other subject areas, including products liability, antitrust, general commercial disputes, and fraud.

Nicholas also has significant appellate experience, having drafted petitions for certiorari, amicus briefs, and merits briefs before the United States Supreme Court, as well as appellate briefs before the Federal Circuit, Ninth Circuit, Fifth Circuit, and D.C. Circuit.

Nicholas served as a law clerk for the Honorable Paul L. Friedman of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia from 2014 to 2016. Prior to joining K&L Gates, Nicholas was a senior associate with an international law firm in Washington, D.C.
