Mr. Ryman is a litigation and insolvency lawyer. Admitted in 2013, he has gained exposure to various areas of law including insurance, property and building and construction.

Mr. Ryman advises and appears on behalf of insolvency practitioners, secured creditors and other interested parties in relation to banking litigation, recovery matters and security enforcement proceedings.

Mr. Ryman is part of an experienced restructuring and insolvency team which offers responsive and strategic advice to its clients in relation to fast paced, complex disputes.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. Ryman worked in Melbourne for a growing Australian firm.

  • Instructing counsel in an application brought by a liquidator as bare trustee in order to realise trust assets through the liquidator's right of indemnity.
  • Advising and acting for liquidators and trustees in bankruptcy in relation to public examinations, injunction applications, recovery proceedings and voidable transaction claims.
  • Advising trustees in bankruptcy on various issues arising out of vacant possession proceedings, including:
    • the trustees' role as intervening party in a family law proceeding
    • enforceability of ‘sham’ leases
    • disposition by Will of life tenancy to a bankrupt.
  • Defending voidable transactions claim brought against non-bankrupt spouses.
  • Instructing counsel in public examinations concerning the veracity of mortgages and caveats and the transfer of company assets at less than arms length.
  • Instructing counsel in an application seeking orders for delivery up of documents, injunctive relief and freezing orders.
  • Instructing counsel in an application brought after expiration of limitations period to substitute a defendant to an unfair preference claim.
