Breanna Van Engelen is a third-year associate in the firm’s Seattle office. She focuses on trial practice and civil litigation involving emerging technologies, online conduct, electronic impersonation, and digital privacy.

As a rising trial litigator, Ms. Van Engelen has experience giving compelling closing arguments in civil jury trials, directing and cross examining witnesses, and deposing potential witnesses. She has also successfully argued several motions, including several motions in limine and a partial summary judgement motion.

Ms. Van Engelen devotes a significant amount of time to the firm’s pro bono Cyber Civil Rights Legal Project, and researching other online privacy issues. She recently represented two victims of cyberstalking in a two-week trial, where the jury awarded an $8.9 million verdict—the largest verdict ever awarded to a non-celebrity in a cyberstalking and online harassment case.

Professional Background

Ms. Van Engelen is a proud Washington State University alumnus. She is a former American Mock Trial Association member and currently volunteers as a judge for college mock trial competitions.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Van Engelen worked for AmeriCorps helping students in Central America establish and run environmental nonprofits in their home countries.
