Amanda Cashman is an associate in the firm's Pittsburgh office. She currently focuses her practice in commercial litigation, concentrating on matters related to oil and natural gas and insurance coverage. Ms. Cashman’s oil and natural gas practice includes both civil and administrative litigation involving disputes related to lease terms, the calculation of royalties, surface-use disputes, and water-pollution allegations, as well as the representation of clients in crisis management situations. She also represents oil and natural gas clients in matters related to land use and local regulation.

Ms. Cashman’s practice also includes the representation of clients' interests in breach of contract and insurance coverage issues. Specifically, she represents policyholders in various industries seeking insurance coverage for asbestos-related bodily injuries, environmental liabilities and losses, and well control incidents. Ms. Cashman has also represented health care providers in disputes with insurers related to the application of reimbursement rates and federal sequestration laws.

Oil and Gas:
  • Represents oil and gas operators in lease disputes with landowners regarding lease termination issues, including pooling and unitization provisions, force majeure, commencement of operations, and implied covenants, pending before both state and federal courts.
  • Defends oil and gas operators in claims related to the calculation of royalties.
  • Counsel to oil and gas operators in interpreting and challenging local zoning ordinances to obtain zoning permits from local governments.
  • Represents oil and gas operators in zoning hearing board proceedings challenging cease and desist orders and zoning permit denials.
  • Provided on-site crisis management to an international oil and gas producer, including advising on evidence collection and retention, interviewing witnesses, and interfacing with various governmental regulators and investigators. 
Insurance Coverage:
  • Represented a retailer in securing insurance coverage for potential asbestos-related bodily injury liabilities.
  • Represents a Pennsylvania utility regarding insurance coverage for asbestos-related bodily injury liabilities and environmental liabilities and losses.
  • Represents a chemical company in connection with insurance coverage disputes related to environmental remediation liabilities.
  • Represents an international oil and gas producer regarding insurance coverage for damages resulting from an unanticipated loss of containment of natural gas.
Health Care Litigation
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a consortium of hospitals in litigation involving application of federal sequestration laws.
  • Represents health care providers in disputes with insurers regarding reimbursement rates and other contractual issues.
Pro Bono
  • Represents individuals seeking final court orders under Pennsylvania’s Protection from Abuse statute.
  • Represents criminal defendants in the re-sentencings of juvenile homicide convictions required pursuant to the United State Supreme Court’s decision in Miller v. Alabama, 132 S. Ct. 2455 (2012).
