Alex Brightman, an associate in the firm’s London office, focuses his practice on all aspects of construction law. He has extensive experience negotiating and advising on standard form (including FIDIC, NEC3 and JCT) and bespoke construction agreements for infrastructure, engineering and mixed-use development projects. Alex also has experience of dispute resolution through negotiation, adjudication and litigation.
  • Assisting a major government entity on the development of its suite of contracts for the procurement of civil infrastructure throughout Qatar
  • Providing legal advice and support to a government agency on the development of its first PPP Project in Qatar for social housing accommodation and related facilities for expatriate workers
  • Advising a Qatari government entity on its build, operate and transfer arrangements for Jery Al Samur in Qatar
  • Advising a master developer client regarding the finance and construction of a district cooling plant on a BOOT delivery method
  • Advising a master developer client on the development of a PPP Project for workers’ accommodation and social housing in Qatar
  • Assisting a Qatari government entity with the establishment of a free zone in the State of Qatar including drafting of all applicable legislation and regulations
  • Acting as project counsel on the construction of a high-value landmark development in Doha comprising a luxury hotel, commercial and residential units
  • Drafting a framework agreement, call-off arrangements and forms of sub-contract to be used for the procurement of all elevators and travellators for a major public railway network in the State of Qatar
  • Advising Shamayel United Development Company on infrastructure agreements for the construction of a mixed-use landmark development in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
  • Advising the Indian-headquartered designer and builder of hydro-electric power facilities on its global terms for EPC Contracting
  • Advising London Underground Limited (LUL) during the first “Periodic Review” of LUL’s its public-private partnership contract with Tube Lines Limited
  • Advising LUL on the delivery of eight congestion-relief and step-free access projects
  • Advising LUL on its tender negotiations and contract drafting for a major power upgrade to the sub-surface railway with a capital value in excess of £200 million
  • Drafting and negotiating a number of bespoke tunnel cooling contracts for LUL as part of the tube network’s tunnel cooling programme.
  • Advising the developer on the delivery of the £190 million student accommodation scheme at The University of Hertfordshire from preferred bidder stage up to financial close
  • Providing legal advice and support to the developer on Phase 1 of a high-value regeneration scheme in the London Borough of Newham comprising 179 residential units of private and affordable housing and a chain supermarket
  • Providing legal advice and support to the developer on Phase 2 of a high-value regeneration scheme in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham comprising 138 residential units of private and affordable housing and retail accommodation. This included assisting with the drafting and negotiating of the Development Agreement, the D&B contract and ancillary documentation
