Abram I. Moore is a partner in the Chicago, Illinois and Doha, Qatar offices of K&L Gates whose practice is focused on the resolution of international and domestic commercial disputes. Mr. Moore represents clients in state and federal courts in the United States and assists clients with litigation pending before courts in the Middle East. He has experience representing clients in international arbitration proceedings as well as in domestic arbitrations and mediations.

Mr. Moore has helped clients favorably resolve all manner of disputes, including breach of sales and distribution agreements and other commercial contracts, disputes arising from the purchase and sale of businesses, non-competition and unfair trade practice disputes, allegations of commercial fraud, intra-corporate conflicts, construction disputes, and entertainment and media disputes. He understands that his clients’ business objectives must always be at the forefront of any dispute resolution strategy, and focuses on achieving superior results in an efficient manner.

In addition to commercial disputes, Mr. Moore has significant experience representing individual clients relating to disputes over cryopreserved pre-embryos. Mr. Moore was counsel in a groundbreaking case in Illinois on the subject, and convinced the Illinois Appellate Court to adopt his client’s preferred legal standard. He has since counseled clients across the US regarding their rights in such disputes and been interviewed by publications from around the world on the subject.

Doing Business in Qatar’s Construction Center, American Institute of Architecture Service Trade Mission to Qatar
  • Successfully represented international bottled water company in multi-day AAA arbitration against distributor, achieving an award fully in favor of client.
  • Successfully resolved international arbitration seated in New York on behalf of U.S. seller of business against foreign purchaser relating to earn-out payments.
  • Representing contractor in international arbitration pending in Qatar, and in parallel U.S. federal litigation, to recover payment for construction work performed on U.S. air base in Qatar.
  • Representing US architecture firm in litigation in Qatar courts against developer of major hotel project where claims and counterclaims exceed US$220 million and include allegations of failure to pay for work, delays to project, and allegedly defective work.
  • Successfully represented an infertile client in litigation seeking custody and control over cryopreserved pre-embryos in a lawsuit that was a matter of first impression in its jurisdiction and created new law in this area.
  • Represented Qatari family-owned company in disputes with shareholders relating to major construction projects in Doha.
  • Achieved favorable settlement for a Chinese manufacturer and supplier of consumer pressure washers in U.S. litigation involving claims for breach of contract, trademark and trade dress infringement, unfair competition, and fraud.
  • Represented international media company in the resolution of all manner of disputes, including disputes with an international airline regarding a co-branding and marketing project, litigation with investors in film projects and film slates regarding the performance of those projects, disputes with print and media companies regarding the content of their publications, disputes with former employees regarding the disclosure of confidential information, and disputes with writers, actors, producers and distributors regarding their alleged rights in films and television series.
  • Achieved favorable settlement for a food safety testing company in US$17.5 million professional negligence and breach of contract lawsuit brought by meat supplier in New York.
  • Represented piping and mechanical contractor in lawsuit in Indiana against owner of biofuel plant where claims included failure to pay for work, allegedly defective piping work, wrongful termination of subcontractor, and delay and inefficiency claims.
  • Achieved favorable settlement for the owner of a performing arts theater in an Illinois lawsuit filed by electrical subcontractor regarding defective work it performed during theater construction.
  • Achieved verdict in favor of a motion picture financier/producer after trial in Los Angeles of US$11 million declaratory judgment action relating to alleged breach of settlement and assignment agreement.
  • Achieved full dismissal of lawsuit against a Czech manufacturer of granite products in wrongful death lawsuit filed in Illinois, on the basis of lack of jurisdiction.
  • Achieved verdict in favor of real estate developer after trial of an action in Illinois court against a seller of commercial property for breach of agreement to sell property.
  • Achieved favorable settlement at mediation for receiver for failed insurance company in Illinois litigation against former officers and directors of the insurance company for breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Achieved award in favor of a paper manufacturer in Illinois arbitration against property owner over client’s alleged wrongful termination of a large commercial lease.
  • Achieved favorable settlement for an international bank in federal lawsuit regarding alleged violations of the US Fair Housing Act.
