K&L Gates Partner Appointed Chairperson of Public Counsel’s Board of Directors

5 November 2015
Los Angeles - Paul W. Sweeney, Jr., administrative partner of the Los Angeles office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP, has been appointed chairperson of the board of directors of Public Counsel, the largest not-for-profit law firm focusing on pro bono legal services in the United States.

Sweeney is a member of K&L Gates’ commercial litigation practice and advises on complex business disputes involving breach of contract, unfair business practice, false advertising, consumer fraud, privacy violation, and breach of warranty claims, among others.

“It is an honor for me to serve as chairperson for an organization that has over 120 attorneys and support staff, and the resources of more than 5,000 volunteer lawyers, law students, and legal professionals,” said Sweeney, who has served as a member of Public Counsel’s board for more than 15 years. “Public Counsel fills a special need, helping to deliver justice, hope, and opportunity to the most vulnerable members of our communities who would otherwise have little, if any, access to legal help.”

Founded in 1970, Public Counsel assists more than 30,000 children, youth, families, and community organizations each year.

K&L Gates comprises approximately 2,000 lawyers globally who practice in fully integrated offices located on five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
