K&L Gates Enhances Corporate and Transactional Team with Appointment of Sydney Tax Partner

30 January 2017
Sydney - Global law firm K&L Gates continues to strengthen its corporate and transactional team with the appointment of Matthew Cridland as a partner in the firm’s Sydney office. Cridland joins K&L Gates from DLA Piper.

Cridland has over 17 years of experience working as an indirect tax lawyer in Australia, with a particular focus in complex Goods and Services Tax (GST) matters. He also advises on customs and state tax matters, including stamp duty, payroll tax, and land tax.

His broad industry experience encompasses advising clients across a wide range of sectors such as real estate, financial services, corporate (including M&A, IPO, and other securities transactions), energy and resources, infrastructure (including Public Private Partnerships and joint ventures), government, telecommunications, and retail.

Cridland said: “The attraction to K&L Gates was the firm’s fully integrated global platform. Tax law is complicated, and companies operating across multiple jurisdictions need to understand and comply with a plethora of issues. As a lawyer advising such enterprises, being part of a firm that offers a single, truly integrated global tax service not constrained by internal barriers makes eminent sense. I’m excited to join K&L Gates and look forward to leveraging the firm’s platform to service both domestic and global clients.”

“Matthew’s comprehensive understanding of this complex and technical area of law, combined with his highly engaged and commercial approach, will be of tremendous benefit to both domestic clients and foreign companies seeking investment opportunities in Australia,” stated Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Australia. “We are very pleased to welcome Matthew to the partnership.”

Over the past year, K&L Gates’ Australian corporate and transactional team also has been strengthened through the additions of Melbourne partner John Mann and Sydney partners Nick Humphrey, Dan Atkin, and Hal Lloyd.

K&L Gates’ corporate practice is among the most substantial in the legal industry with more than 500 lawyers across five continents providing full-service corporate counsel to facilitate the structuring, financing, and successful completion of an array of domestic, international, and cross-border transactions.

K&L Gates comprises approximately 2,000 lawyers globally who practice in fully integrated offices located on five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
